Junior Boys

V.I.S.S.A.A. Junior Boys Soccer

Rules and Regulations

(Rules follow F.I.F.A. standards with the following adaptations.)

As of June 2012, berthing for the Junior Boys Island Soccer Championship will be determined by ARTICLE X-ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS of the Island Constitution.

VISSAA Boys & Girls Soccer Championship Rules…  updated July 1, 2013.

1) The V.I.S.S.A.A. Junior Boys Soccer Championship will
consist of two pools of four (4) teams, Pool Composition will be dependent on berthing and the location of the host school (as outlined in the constitution).  A round robin will be played in each pool, which will result in the following to decide final placing:

a) The winners of each pool will play for first and second place.

b) The second place teams in each pool will play for third and fourth place.

c) The third place teams in each pool will play for fifth and sixth place.

d) The fourth place teams in each pool will play for seventh and eighth place.

2) Keeper plaques will be provided for the top 3 placing teams in the tournament.  The reasonable cost of the keeper plaques will be covered as part of the entry fee.

3) Round Robin Games will be two (2), thirty-minute halves with unlimited substitutions.  Note that Playoff Games will be two thirty-five minute halves.

All games will start promptly at the scheduled times.  Any
team taking the field 30 minutes late will forfeit the game.

4) Points for Round Robin Games shall be awarded as follows:
Win = 3 points
Tie = 1 point
Loss = 0 points

5) Round Robin Games shall remain a draw if the game is tied at
the end of regulation time.  Games in the Playoff Round will have two (2) 7.5 minute halves of extra-time to break ties after regulation.  NO golden goal will be used.  If the game remains tied after extra time then a shootout will be implemented using FIFA rules.

6) Group tie breaking procedure:  If two or more teams are tied within a group and have an equal number of points on the completion of the round robin, the following criteria shall be used, in order, to determine the final standings. This process will be used in its entirety if needed to place the teams following round robin play.  Once a team is determined, then the process continues to break the tie.

a) Previous match result:  the winner of the match between the two teams tied in points shall be awarded the higher position (not applicable in a three way tie (or more).

b) Goal difference:  goal difference shall be calculated by subtracting goals conceded from goals scored.  A maximum of 5 goals shall be awarded in each game.  For example, a 7-1 score will result in a 5 goal difference; a 7-3 score is a 4 goal difference.  Goal difference will only be used for the matches between the teams that are tied.

c) Least goals against:  the team having the fewer number of goals against will be awarded the higher position.

d) Penalty kicks:  if two or more teams are still tied under criteria a) – c), then the higher standing shall be decided by penalty kicks from the penalty spot, as follows:

  • two teams tied – as per FIFA rules at the time and place decided by the tournament director.
  • three teams tied – each team is designated A, B or C. Three mini games shall be played ( A vs B, B vs C, A vs C) consisting of 5 penalty kicks.  The standings after these 3 mini games shall be ranked.  All 5 shots are to be taken in each mini game regardless of the score.  The total goals scored in the mini game will be used.
  • four teams tied – each team is designated A, B, C or D. Six mini games shall be played ( A vs B, D vs C, A vs C, B vs D, A vs D, B vs C) consisting of 5 penalty kicks. The standings after these 6 mini games shall be ranked as in the 3 game case.

7) Misconduct:  any player sent from the field (red carded) by the referee will automatically be disqualified from taking part in the rest of the tournament.  Any player receiving three yellow cards during the tournament must sit out the following game.  Additional games may be given by the discipline committee.

8) Protest:  any protest must be submitted in writing to the Tournament Director directly following the game in question.  After consultation with the referee, the Tournament Director and a Protest Committee will make any final decisions.

9) F.I.F.A. rules will be adhered to unless deemed redundant
by these regulations.

10) No team may dress more than 20 players for any game.  All players must wear team jerseys, with goalkeepers in a different colour.  Teams shorts are recommended wherever possible and no cut-offs will be allowed.

11) The Island Championship for Soccer shall be in the fall at the date determined at the previous A.G.M.

12) Coaches Meeting:  will be held during the tournament to discuss recommendations and tournament business.

From Paul Collis, Tournament Director…

Congrats to Reynolds who wrapped up the title with a dramatic 3-2 victory in the rain of Mill Bay over Brooks, the only team able to score on the champs this tournament.  In the third place final, SMUS beat Carihi 4-2.
Here’s hoping Brooks, 2nd place, catch their ferry; thanks to all the coaches, drivers, volunteers and parents who made this happen.
cheers, P

DAY 2 Pool Play Results – 2016 JB Soccer Island Championship

DAY 1 Results – 2016 JB Soccer Island Championship

From Paul Collis, Tournament Director…

Day 1 is in the books and the rain was less than biblical.

In Pool A, the Cowichan Valley eagerly awaits the 9am showdown between Reynolds (S2) and Carihi (N1) who both rattled off a pair of convincing wins on Monday.  Highland (N3) and Kelsey (C2) will be looking to grab a place in the 5th place final when they meet at 9:15am Tuesday morning.

In Pool B, all we know is that host Brentwood (C1) will not be repeating as they lost their games on Monday.  Brooks (N2) presently lead on goal difference with 4 points, and they should have a cracker tomorrow against Oak Bay (S1, 3 points) who opened up with a win but were upset by my alma mater SMUS (S2, 4 points) in the afternoon game today.

Thanks to all coaches who endured the rain and bad bus music.  Updated standings and the schedule for tomorrow is attached.

cheers, Paul
